A Message from the President

As we have moved through another season, we’ve continued to build new relationships and focus on creating a positive impact with job seekers and teams across provinces.

A large partnership formed in these past few months with Niiwin Wendaanimok, allowing us to collaborate and support four communities in preparing candidates for the workforce. It’s exciting to work with new communities alongside likeminded teams!

We are always looking for ways to support communities whether it be through career readiness and connections to the workforce or cultural education and preservation.

Connection to the Four Directions

Tobacco

Tobacco, the most commonly know of the sacred medicines, is associated with the eastern direction. Traditional tobacco is different than commercial tobacco. It is naturally prepared and dried.

Tobacco has many traditional purposes. It can be used as a symbol of respect and thanks when someone shares their time and knowledge. Tobacco also creates a link to communicating with the Spirit world when burned. Depending on the nation it can be used in many different ways!

Sharing IL7 with Teachers

We had the great opportunity of presenting at the Think Indigenous and Atlantic Native Teachers’ Education Conference this spring. Alongside teachers from across the country, these conferences highlight Indigenous education and  culture in the classroom. Connecting with educators on this topic reinforced the vision behind the IL7 course and how the Seven Sacred Teachings can guide us today!

Team Building with the Thunder Bay Hospital

As the seasons change and the sun comes out, it can be a great time for a reset and some team bonding. We facilitated an exciting team building day with the Indigenous Collaboration, Equity & Inclusion team with a mix of group activities and independent exercises. The team left with a better understanding of their colleagues and refreshed motivation moving into the summer months.

In partnership with the City of Thunder Bay, we are continuing to build out an interactive experience focused on gang prevention. The city plans on implementing this tool as part of a larger program to educate youth on how to protect themselves from gang recruiters. We are grateful to be a part of this project that highlights an important topic in our community.
